I just turned 40 last summer so I was a little too old when Strawberry Shortcake hit toy shelves in the 1980s but I still recall how popular she was.
Strawberry Shortcake is alive and well and very popular with today’s girls. My 5-year-old received a Strawberry Shortcake Splash-N-Petal Pool set for her birthday in March and both she and my older daughter just LOVE it! I didn’t hesitate to say yes when a PR rep with Hasbro asked me if I’d like to review a few other new Strawberry Shortcake toys.
My 8-year-old was thrilled with the Strawberry Shortcake Berry Cafe Playset. She and her little sister have been playing with it nonstop. Although it is marketed toward girls ages 4 to 7, my oldest daughter just celebrated her 8th birthday and loves it. We also received two mini doll in purse sets featuring none otehr than Strawberry Shortcake herself, as well as Lemon Meringue. I love the fact that these tiny sets zip close, meaning you can toss all their mini accessories into the purse and not worry about them finding their way throughout your home (and into your vacuum cleaner!)
Here are some fun features of the Berry Cafe Playset, an adorable strawberry shaped toy:
- A pull-out staircase made of green leaves
- A tiny blender that really whirls
- An adorable bird on top of the berry playset that spins when pressedTiny pastries and other goodies that Strawberry Shortcake can sell
My girls have been setting up the Berry Cafe with their swimming pool set and pretending to have a mini Strawberry Shortcake village. These toys require no batteries and provide hours of fun, imaginative play for little girls who are Strawberry Shortcake fans. It’s currently on sale at Amazon for $29.99 and I like that it is compact, making it perfect to set up on a table top. My only criticism is that I wish it had a closed case design or even a built in little cabinet so you could toss in all the tiny bakery accessories. Still, this would make the perfect birthday present for a little girl in the 4 to 8-year-old age range!
