I always buy bulk size laundry detergent, but it seems like I am constantly buying more.
I wasn’t familiar with Robby Wash high efficiency wash balls, which are popular in Europe, but was sent their general blue laundry ball pack (for use in both cold and hot water). On average, each Robby Wash ball lasts for 12 months of laundry and is the equivalent of a little more than 75 pounds of traditional washing powder. Robby Wash balls sell for $32.95 on the Oransi website, which means you could save up to $100 a year on laundry detergent, depending on how much laundry you do. You’d think with two girls and one husband I wouldn’t be doing that much laundry, but with work clothes, school clothes, play clothes, and soccer uniforms, it adds up.
Robby Wash balls don’t require any additional detergent or fabric softener and work in both front load and top load washing machines. The pack includes the blue washing ball, a stain stick, and three extra packets of macro-molecule pellets. For advanced cleaning on dark clothes they offer a fuchsia wash ball.
The Robby Wash ball is very easy to use. You just put it in the wash and refill the ball when the level of marco-molecule pellets is less than 75% full. For over-sized washing machines it’s recommended to use two washing balls.
As soon as the machine starts, the laundry ball gets to work. Here are some of the features:
- Hypoallergenic and great choice as a baby laundry detergent cleaner or for someone with sensitive skin
- Guards fabrics against oxidation and discoloration caused by chlorine in the water, and maintains your clothes’ springiness
- Ultra high efficiency laundry solution – no need to add any laundry deter
- Does not pollute the environment like standard laundry detergents
- Easy to refill so you do not need to throw away the ball
- No phosphates or chlorine
- Safe to use with bleach
How does it work? The activated macromolecules in the Robby Wash ball are gradually released through the wash, dissolving dried-in stains by generating ions which activate the water molecules. This increase in the pH enables the activated molecules to penetrate deep into the fabrics and attach themselves to the stains. As the motion of the drum agitates the clothes, the stains come away easily from the fabric and dissolve in the water.
I have to admit I was both excited and skeptical about this product. I’ve been using a Robby Wash ball for more than a month now and have been very pleased with the results, although for very heavy loads (such as bedding and beach towels from the pool) I’ve been using my traditional powder and color safe bleach. Call me an old dog in the laundry room who can’t give up her old tricks.
The Robby Wash ball is about the size of a tennis ball.
