One of our favorite things to do as a family is travel. We love to stay at hotels that make us feel at home while we’re on the road, far from our own comfortable and familiar surroundings.
According to a recent Mom Central poll of 1,300 moms, 66% plan on staying at a hotel this summer. When we plan a family vacation, often the hotel is the first decision we make after we settle on location. For us, and many families, a reasonable rate, lots of space, and convenient location are important factors when deciding on accommodations.
Originally intended for business travelers on extended stay with more of an apartment type feel, Marriott has recently renovated its Residence Inn hotels across the country to make them more family friendly. With more than 600 locations aross the United States and Canada, Residence Inn by Marriott offers free hot breakfast daily and free Internet access, two features that get a big thumbs up from us. Some rooms even have a door that separates the bedrooms from the living room area, which is great if you want to stay up late watching a movie after you put the kids to bed (although if your kids are getting older like mine, you may find that they outlast you at bedtime!!)
Each suite has a full kitchen with microwave, stove or cooktop, a dishwasher, and dining tables with stools, making it great to stick to a budget during vacation since you can prepare your own lunch or even dinner in your room. Dining out during vacation is a great treat for us, but sometimes we just need a break, especially if we’ve been on the go all day or the kids need a night to wind down, stay in, and watch a movie in the room. The living rooms in the Residence Inn by Marriott suites also feature sleeper sofas, making these accommodations great, flexible options for families on the go, especially as kids get older and bring along a friend on vacation.
We love to travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee, which is less than three hours from our house, and I noticed they have a Residence Inn downtown. We will definitely check it out the next time we travel to Chattanooga, as it is centrally located near all the downtown family attractions, such as Coolidge Park and the aquarium.
Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Residence Inn by Marriott and received a chance to win a weekend stay at a Residence Inn to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central also sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.
