I have 5 and 8-year-old daughters so we have a good age range in toy preference. My 8-year-old still loves to play with dolls and she and her little sister will sit down and play together well for hours from time to time, which is nice.
Here are some of the hits from Christmas 2010:
Santa brought these to my 5-year-old and I hesitated a bit because they are intended for kids 3 and up. My 5-year-old has been wanting walkie talkies, though, and most of the sets designed for older kids are pretty no frills. As I am typing this post, however, BOTH my girls are playing with these walkie talkies. My husband went for a mile walk in our neighborhood Christmas day with our dog and tested out the range and this system worked great. Kids can customize their avatar and send “email” messages. My girls took these to bed with them Christmas night! Great toy and great value for $29.99.
Santa also brought this Barbie veterinarian center to my 5-year-old. Here’s my honest assumption of this toy. It retails for $89 on Amazon which I think is way overpriced. It’s basically a plastic set, although it does have a few components, such as the cell phone, that make noise (and of course require batteries.) If you can find this toy on clearance, however, I’d recommend it. My daughter loves it and it’s the perfect size to play with Webkinz. It does come with a cute plush chihuahua.
My 8-year-old received this toy from my mother-in-law and she and my younger daughter love it. We don’t own any Zhu Zhu Pets (I know…gasp!) but the Furry Frenzies are pretty cute, I have to admit. My only gripe as a parent with a tad OCD streak is that once this toy takes up quite a bit of floor space. But for the fun factor and the price (on sale now for $29.99 at Amazon), it’s a great toy.
Speaking of toys that take up a LOT of room (ahem), my stepmother bought this play tent for the girls. I’m anxious to store the tunnel part of this tent, but the girls are loving it. We haven’t had any problems with setting it up, although this particular play tent set has not gotten great reviews on Amazon. We’ve set it up in our formal living room. This would be great fun for boys or girls.
Finally, the company that brought us Bratz seems to have redeemed itself in the form of these adorable “rag dolls.” My 8-year-old requested a Lalaloopsy doll from Santa and her new winter doll is really adorable. She slept with her last night.
Littlest Pet Shop toys, despite my hatred of all the tiny accessories, are the one toy that both my girls consistently play with well together. They’ll set up elaborate cities and this Christmas they’ve been taking some of my decorations and using them to create winter village scenes. My 5-year-old received this newest set from my mother-in-law and she loves it. It’s a great addition to our Littlest Pet Shop collection. We store all their pets sin a clear zippered backpack and all the LPS accessories in a lime green tub.
What were some of the Christmas 2010 hit toys at your house?
