I’ve never used an online meal delivery service because it seems like a luxury type expense but I was really excited when Tory Thompson contacted me about reviewing her business, The Organic Gourmet, an online organic meal delivery service. It’s clear that Tory loves what she does and is dedicated to creating healthy, nutritious, and delicious organic meals for busy families.
We sampled the Chicken Puttanesca which was fantastic and even the girls loved it (which is no small feat). It’s made with boneless organic chicken breasts rolled around a savory cheese filling and smothered with a robust Puttanesca sauce that has a smoky briny flavor of olives and capers (mmmmm capers). We simply had to thaw the dish and heat it in the oven. We also tried the Chipotle Shrimp Cakes and my husband, who is the master chef at our house, was thoroughly impressed with the chipotle and adobo puree that was packaged with the dish. One word to the wise, however, I didn’t realize that we weren’t supposed to thaw the shrimp cakes before cooking. But they were still delicious. Tory also sent us a batch of her oatmeal raisin cookies (all organic ingredients) and they were honestly the best oatmeal raisin cookies I have EVER HAD!
The Organic Gourmet has an outstanding menu that changes periodically with several delicious entrees to choose from such as Baby Baby Lasagna with a special organic twist by Tory (she adds baby spinach and baby portobellos along with naturally pasture-raised pork Italian sausage from her local Farmer’s Market in North Carolina) to the kid friendly classic Ritzy Chicken to burgers made with bleu cheese. When Tory says she uses fresh organic ingredients from her own neighborhood she isn’t kidding. The beef used in her recipes is from Baucom’s Best Grass-Fed Beef and Tory literally drives past the cattle grazing on the way to her kids’ school. Talk about “fresh meat!”
It’s clear to me that Tory is committed to making food that tastes just like when you were a kid. “We say it tastes like ‘our childhood,’ back before everything was processed and modified into mass production. It tastes like food is supposed to taste – and when it is so satisfying, you naturally eat less and enjoy it more.”
A minimum order from The Organic Gourmet is 24 servings, however Tory offers a special one time Taste Test Sampler for new customers for $88 which includes a “Cook’s Choice” sampler of six entrees in a special size that serves 2 adults. I think this introductory sample would make a fabulous gift for a new mom or for someone recovering from surgery who is unable to cook. Fair warning, though, once you try The Organic Gourmet you may get hooked!
