My Kids’ Holiday Faves

The wrapping paper’s been tossed and Christmas morning is now a fun memory. My girls, 9 and 6, definitely had some favorite gifts under the tree this year.

Now that they’re getting older, their gifts are getting a little more high-tech. Here are some of their favorite gifts they received this year:

Mario Kart for Wii

My mother-in-law purchased this for my older daughter as her big grandparent gift after I mentioned she’d love it (she’d played it before at a friend’s house) and it was, indeed, a big hit! I have to admit I’m a little crazy about this Nintendo Wii game, too, and I am not a big gamer.

Leapfrog LeapPad

Santa was able to score a Leapfrog LeapPad Thanksgiving Day before every last one on the face of the Earth was sold out just in time to give parents everywhere a nervous breakdown. My 6-year-old loves her LeapPad. I thought she might be too young for it (she turns 7 in March and has a Nintendo DS), but she loves the Art Studio app and the writing app that came with her gift.

Sansa Fuze 8GB MP3 Player from Sandisk

Santa’s helper found a great nearly 1/2 off deal at Toys R Us for these incredible MP3 players. My girls have never had an MP3 player before and they are loving them, especially the radio feature which lets them pause radio. I may have to ask for one of these for Mother’s Day!

Not all our gifts were high-tech. Some of our old school, no batteries or SIM cards required favorite books and toys under the tree included…

Nothing will make you realize you’re over 40 faster than a rockin’ game of Twister against your two very young and agile kids!

My first grader fell in love with this classic game in kindergarten. Honestly the best under $10 gift this Christmas. She and I have played at least a half a dozen times and she usually kicks my butt. Hmmm…no wonder she likes it!

Polar Express

Every year I like to add a new Christmas book to our library. The Polar Express is my 9-year-old’s favorite Christmas movie so I’m surprised I’m just now getting around to giving her the book. She was thrilled when she opened this Christmas morning. I know it’s a book we’ll all treasure for years!

Children’s Dictionary

Yes my girls have both been wanting dictionaries and my mom got them each their first nice, hardback dictionary. Love this edition that my 6-year-old received from my mom.

What were some of your kids’ favorite gifts this holiday season?
