Being in my early 40s now and a former sun worshiper in the 80s (back in the day when no one really seemed concerned about sunscreen and baby oil was the poolside accessory…ouch!) I am always on the lookout for great skincare lines. I love natural products that are kind to my skin, especially since I wasn’t always so kind to my skin in my teens and 20s.
L’Athene is a new line for anti-aging and challenged skin out of South Carolina created by two nurses, Nan Brown and Lil Bogdan, who worked with burns and severe dermatological conditions at Johns Hopkins and other leading hospitals. After 15 years of treating skin at its very worst and studying clinical and holistic skin healing principles, they discovered that skin responds best to pure, potent, nutrient-rich natural preparations.
Brown and Bogdan worked with top nutritionists, organic chemists and leading aromatherapists seeking out the best ingredients for skin health and meticulously refined the formulas without resorting to using chemicals that are prevalent in so many over the counter skincare lines. Not only are L’Athene products 99% chemical-free, they are concentrated, lasting 2 times longer than other skincare products. They are also not tested on animals and are made in small batches in an FDA-approved lab.
L’Athene is packed with vitamins, minerals, proteins, fatty acids, antioxidants and phyto-nutrients and is sold in doctor’s offices, hospitals and select spas nationwide, as well as online.
L’Athene sent me four products to try out:
- Dry Skin Hydrating Plant Oil
- Ultra Antioxidant Nutrient Serum
- Total Eye Repair Cream
- Neroli Hand and Body Lotion
Bar none my favorite product I’ve tried so far is the L’Athene nutrient serum. I’ve never tried an anti-aging serum before and I’m hooked on this product! I use one pump’s worth on my face at night and I can instantly feel a difference. My skin feels smoother and “plumper” after just a small amount, almost like I’ve had a facial. The serum contains about a 4-5 month supply and I’ve been using it for one month now and there is plenty left for several more weeks. Made with natural citrus oils of Tangerine and Lime, which smooth and even tone, and tea tree and grapefruit oils, which offer natural antiseptic and astringent properties, this serum has a great refreshing smell and is easily absorbed, so it doesn’t feel heavy or oily. I also love the Neroli hand and body lotion, which I use nightly. My skin tends to be really dry in the winter.
The nutrient serum, which was named best complexion keeper by More magazine (a great publication targeting women in their 40s and older):
- Repairs Surface Damage and Sun and Age Spots
- Effectively Plumps and Firms
- Minimizes Lines and Wrinkles
Priced at $85 it is not cheap, but so far I’ve used it one month and I can see that it should last another 3 or 4 months if I continue to use it at bedtime after I cleanse my face. I’m finding that the older I get it, it is well worth spending a little more on products that truly work.
Check out L’Athene’s monthly website specials (and they offer free shipping on orders $65 or more.)
What skincare products do you swear by? Do you think it’s worth it to spend a little more on quality products?
