Seafood is definitely one of my favorite foods to indulge in when we go out! We don’t frequent many seafood restaurants here in Nashville, though, being landlocked in Tennessee. Joe’s Crab Shack on 2nd Avenue downtown, however, is the perfect place to get our seafood fix.
If you think Joe’s Crab Shack is just a fun place for adults to grab an adult beverage and chow down on their favorite crab legs or shrimp, think again. Joe’s Crab Shack has an amazing kids’ menu that has been revamped to offer healthier options and emphasize wellness, with fun fitness facts and a word find focusing on wellness (and of course there is still plenty of room for good old school coloring on the menu).
The new snow crab and grilled shrimp entrees and side dishes on Joe’s Crab Shack’s kids’ menu have been recognized by registered dieticians as Kids LiveWell choices, a national inititative of the National Restaurant Association and HealthyDiningfinder.com. Joe’s also features many healthy dining entrees for adults…their grilled shrimp is amazing. Joe’s Crab Shack is an inaugural leader in the Kids LieWell choices program, which was launched this fall.
Joe’s has totally repackaged the way it presents food choices in its new kids’ menu with an emphasis on balance between lean protein, vegetables, grains, fruits and low-fat dairy. All sides (ranging from applesauce to veggies to corn on the cob) are gluten free.
My 9-year-old loved Joe’s! I’ll admit we did order a not-so-healthy, but oh so yum, appetizer.
Kids LiveWell choices on the Joe’s Kid’s Menu include:
- Kid’s Snow Crab – a cluster of Snow Crab, fresh (1/2 ear) corn on the cob, steamed rice and apple juice — 400 calories
- Kid’s Simply Grilled Shrimp – Six grilled shrimp (request no seasoned salt) served over steamed rice, fresh (1/2 ear) corn on the cob and orange juice — 420 calories
- Kid’s side dishes, including fresh (1/2 ear) corn on the cob, 30 calories; and applesauce — 90 calories
My kids actually loved the celery with ranch dressing as a side.
We loved checking out the new menu options at Joe’s (and I loved my margarita) and I was pleasantly surprised by the kid friendly atmosphere.
Disclosure: Joe’s provided me and my family with a gift card in order to facilitate this review.
