We are big wine lovers at my house and living in Nashville I am also quite a fan of Soles for Souls, a wonderful Nashville-based charitable organization that provides gently worn shoes to those in need.
We recently had the chance to review three wines from a fantastic new wine company called flipflop Wines which has recently partnered with Soles for Souls. For every bottle of wine purchased, flipflop will donate one pair of flip flop sandals (up to 100,000 pairs for the first 100,000 bottles sold.) More than 300 million children in the world are without shoes, something I know I take for granted daily each time my girls pick out which pair of shoes they’ll wear to school. It’s a humbling thought to realize that some children don’t have something as basic as shoes, while my girls have so many to choose from.
February is probably my least favorite month, so the brightly labeled wines from flipflop were just what the vintner ordered. We tried flipflop Wine’s Chardonnay, Riesling and Merlot. The Chardonnay, originating from Calfornia grapes, wasn’t too dry and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really liked it. I’m more of a red wine drinker, but the flipflop Chardonnay was the perfect creamy blend with hints of pineapple and soft vanilla. It would be great with grilled fish or a salad. I also really enjoyed the Riesling, made with Washington grapes. Most Rieslings I have tried have been incredibly sweet, but flipflop’s Riesling is a medium-bodied blend of peach, apricot and melon that errs to a medium sweet flavor. My third favorite of this trio of wines was the Merlot, also made with California grapes.
Priced at just $7, flipflop offers great tasting wines that are reasonably priced, making them the perfect companion to casual back yard cookouts and outdoor parties this spring and summer. There are seven varieties offered, from whites to reds.
flipflop Wines are available online through Underdog Wine Merchants, which currently ships to 16 states.
