Move over Cinderella and Snow White, there’s a new princess in town and she’s a lovably flawed character with an amazing head of hair.
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment releases Tangled in a special 4-Disc Blu-ray & DVD pack (3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy in a single package) next Tuesday, March 29. We were very excited to preview this amazing package for our DVD collection and it’s one of our top Disney princess movie selections. We don’t see many movies in the theatre since we do popcorn and movie night every Friday at home, but Tangled was on our must see in the theatre list for 2010. My 6-year-old daughter received Tangled PJs for her birthday in March and she insists on wearing them nightly. Rapunzel is a princess that both my girls, ages 6 and 8, can relate to. She has her flaws but she is noble and brave in the face of danger and she doesn’t give up on her dreams. We loved all the suspense, too, as her evil mother was on the hunt to find her before Rapunzel realized her true identity. Flynn Rider is also a lovably flawed character but honestly one of our favorite characters in this Disney flick is not human at all, but Flynn Rider’s horse, Maximus.
In Tangled, Disney’s 50th animated film, the heart-warming and hilarious hijinks of Rapunzel and her unlikely hero, Flynn Rider, are brought to life by a stellar vocal cast including Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.
Grossing more than $400 million in global theatrical sales to date, Tangled puts a fresh twist on a traditional fairy tale that I remember from my own childhood. There was a lot of clever humor built into the plot, action, suspenseful adventure and, of course as in all Disney movies, great music. Rapunzel gains courage and self-confidence as the plot thickens. Rapunzel is a timid young girl who is unsure of herself as the movie starts. She ultimately shows bravery and independence in the face of danger and pursues her dream of leaving her oppressive mother and the tower she has been imprisoned in to see the beautiful floating lights that appear every year on her birthday. The scene where she finally watches the floating lights free on the water with Flynn from the boat on the water and away from the tower where she’d been imprisoned her entire life made me cry!
Just a few of the bonus features on Blu-ray:
- Untangled: The Making of a Fairy Tale – Fun trivia such as Exactly how long is Rapunzel’s hair? How many lanterns were used? Where did Pascal’s name come from? Mandy Moore and Zach Levi take viewers on a kooky behind-the-scenes tour to learn how the filmmakers styled this film’s “Golden Tresses.”
- Deleted Scenes
- Extended Songs
- Tangled Teasers
This special 4-disc package retails for $49.99 but is available for pre-order now on Amazon for $29.99.
If you are a Disney fan, this is a great new DVD to add to your family movie library!
