If you read my mom blog (and I hope you do!) you know I had the most amazing opportunity to sit down with several other bloggers for an interview with actor Steve Carell this summer over the phone to discuss his new film, Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Oh, and Ryan Gosling’s abs by proxy. (Swoon!)
I’ve never participated in a celebrity interview before and Carell was as genuine and funny as you can imagine he’d be.
Of course most of us know and love Carell for his long-time role in The Office, but Carell and the amazing cast of this fun summer film, which includes Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Marisa Tomei, Kevin Bacon, and Emma Stone, truly deliver in this bittersweet romantic comedy. Steve plays Cal Weaver, your typical 40-something mild-mannered good dad living the suburban “dream.” He’s happily married (or so he thinks) to his high-school sweetheart, has a stable job, two kids, and a lovely home. His familiar, comfortable world falls apart, though, when his wife confesses on date night that she’s had an affair. The rest of the movie is a hilarious, often laced with bittersweet, look at how Cal handles his world being turned upside down. He’s taken under the wing of smooth operator Jacob Palmer, played by Ryan Gosling, who takes pity on him after watching him at the local hip bar. Jacob shows Cal how to dress and how to break out of his predictable, suburban dad mold and into a ladies man who knows what drinks to order and what to wear besides off the rack Gap. The movie takes a fantastic twist of events, though, when Jacob meets a beautiful girl whom he just can’t quite figure out.
I loved this movie and saw it with my sister. At points I laughed out loud and at other touching scenes I was moved to emotion. The acting is fantastic and it’s not your typical dumb jock trains mild-mannered dad to be a stud comedy with little substance. It has a great story line AND without giving too much away about the plot, it has a fantastic ending.
Crazy, Stupid, Love is now available on Blu-ray combo pack from Warner Home Entertainment Group.
