Looking for a sweet treat for your daughter’s Easter basket that doesn’t involve sugar of the chocolate bunny variety? I like to add books to my girls’ Easter baskets, but now that my oldest daughter is 7 1/2 she’s grown beyond the Peter Cottontail tales.
Children’s author and fellow mom to two girls Helen Perelman has written a wonderful new chapter books series for girls ages 6 to 9 called Candy Fairies, published by Simon & Schuster, that would be perfect for your young reader. There are two other books in this sweet series: Caramel Moon and Rainbow Swirl.
Perelman sent me the first in the Candy Fairies series, Chocolate Dreams.
Cocoa the Chocolate Fairy is so excited. The fairy princess picked her to watch over the special chocolate eggs for the spring Egg Parade. But right before the parade, the eggs are missing form the nest Can Cocoa and her friends solve the egg mystery before the big day?
My girls really loved this book. My oldest daughter loved reading it so much she could not put it down and she asked for more in the series for her birthday in June. Now THAT is the sign of a great chapter book that really engages the reader!
You can find activities at the official CandyFairies.com website, from printable coloring pages featuring the book series’ fairies to e-cards to send to friends and family.
